Cut-Away Valves

The primary purpose of a valve is to direct the flow of fluids by starting, stopping, and throttling (regulating) to make modern processes possible. Valves are designed to withstand pressure, temperature and flow, and can be found in homes and industry across the world. Process operators classify valves by flow control elements, function and operating conditions (such as pressure, flow or temperature). The more common valves found in oil refineries and chemical plants are as follows:

Ball Starting and stopping a flow. 

Quick opening and closing.

Not good at regulating or throttling.

Plug Starting and stopping a flow. 

Quick opening and closing.

Not good at regulating or throttling.

Gate Starting and stopping a flow. 

Not good at regulating or throttling.

Globe Regulating or throttling a flow.
Check Used to prevent reverse flow (back flow).
Needle Regulating or throttling a flow.
Butterfly Regulating or throttling a flow.
Safety Designed to open quickly to excess gas or vapor pressure
in side a vessel.
Relief Designed to open slowly to excess pressurized liquid.

This equipment is cut-a-way so you can see and identify the internal components. The Cut-Away Valves may be taken apart and reassembled for training purposes.
